Choosing the right fat bike
Fat bikes come in more than one flavour. Here are the differences that matter, so you know what to look for before the first models go live.

Electric or regular
Electric fat bike
Motor (typically 250 to 750 W) and battery. Longer range, effortless hills, no sweat on the way to work. Heavier (roughly 25 to 35 kg), needs charging, costs more.
Good for: daily commuting, longer trips, anyone who wants comfort first.
Regular fat bike
No motor, lighter (roughly 14 to 20 kg), simpler, less to go wrong, easier on the wallet.
Good for: exercise, weekend rides, the beach, people who like to pedal.
Wheels
Wheel size
20 inch
Usually a folding bike: compact, fits in a car, a lift or an apartment. The most common size among electric fat bikes in Vietnam.
24 inch
A balance between compact and stable. Suits shorter riders and teenagers.
26 inch
The classic off-road fat bike size. Most stable and best on rough ground, but bulkier to store and transport.

Prices depend on brand, motor, battery and where you buy. Rough ranges on the market today:

- How long is the warranty on battery, motor and frame, and where is it serviced?
- Do they deliver to your province, and how long does it take?
- Maximum rider weight, and which rider heights the frame suits.
- For electric: battery capacity in Wh, real-world range, charging time.
- Does the bike come with an invoice and papers?
A note on electric bikes: in Vietnam, an e-bike with a motor up to 250 W and a top speed of 25 km/h is generally treated as an electric bicycle and needs no licence. More powerful bikes may fall under electric motorbike rules. Ask the shop about the specific model you have in mind.
